Jessica Holmes, an attorney and public servant, was appointed in December 2023 by Governor Cooper to serve as the North Carolina Auditor, making history as the first African American woman to serve on the council of state. 

 

This appointment underscores her groundbreaking journey in public service, where Jessica’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and equitable policies continues to shape North Carolina's governance.

 

After graduating with honors from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law, Jessica earned accolades including the Distinguished Young Alumni Award and Outstanding Recent Graduate Award. Her tenure as the youngest-ever elected Wake County commissioner, and her unanimous election as Chair, showcase her leadership ability. 

 

At the NC Industrial Commission, Jessica ensures fairness for all parties in workers' compensation claims, upholding North Carolina state law with integrity. Her dedication to her community extends beyond this role. She serves on the board of a nonprofit where her mentorship and advocacy are aimed at diversifying political representation and empowering women from all backgrounds to participate fully in civic life.
